Weekend strategy that actually works in Vancouver
- Call before you travel. A ten-minute phone call saves an hour of transit to a clinic that has already capped its queue.
- Arrive at opening. Weekend queues fill in the first two hours far more often than on weekdays.
- Have a second and third option ready. Pick two clinics near each other — Commercial Drive, Fraser Street and the Kingsway corridor all have clinics within walking distance of one another.
- Use 8-1-1 to triage. A registered nurse can tell you whether Monday morning is safe to wait for.
- Know your emergency department. If your problem worsens overnight, go to the nearest emergency room.

Yes, but the choice is limited. All five urgent and primary care centres open on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A smaller number of private walk-in clinics also open on Sundays, usually with shortened hours. Sunday is the single hardest day to get seen in Vancouver, so arrive early.

Urgent and primary care centres stay open on statutory holidays, including Christmas Day and New Year's Day, on their Sunday schedule. Most private walk-in clinics close entirely on statutory holidays.
What time should I arrive on a weekend?
At or slightly before opening. Weekend queues at Vancouver walk-in clinics build fast, and many clinics reach their patient cap within the first two hours. Arriving fifteen minutes before the doors open is common practice.
